Lo stile del pittore Filippo Maggiore può essere quasi considerato naif, per l’intento di volontaria semplificazione della realtà che implica il suo fare artistico. Se non fosse che Maggiore è arrivato a questo tipo di linguaggio estetico dopo un lungo percorso che è passato anche per le avanguardie. In questa sua ultima fase artistica Maggiore torna invece al figurativismo in una realtà trasfigurata nella brillantezza del colore. L’interesse principale del pittore non sta tanto nella verosimiglianza della rappresentazione, quanto piuttosto nel far emergere i valori cromatici e luminosi di un colore steso in modo compatto in una composizione equilibrata.

Filippo Maggiore è nato a Catania nel 1929. La sua formazione è avvenuta inizialmente nell’ambito delle avanguardie. Per questo motivo si trasferì a Milano nel 1959 con l’intento di trovare un ambiente più consono ai suoi orientamenti. Sono gli anni in cui di giorno Maggiore lavora in un’impresa pubblicitaria e di notte dipinge, arrivando a maturare un informale monocromatico e materico. Un soggiorno nella sua Sicilia nel 1966, però, risveglierà in lui il sentimento per la natura e per i colori. Comincia la lunga serie delle gite nei boschi e dei pic-nic all’aria aperta in cui il pittore esalta la brillantezza dei valori cromatici.

The style of painter Filippo Maggiore can almost be considered naive, because of the intentional simplification of reality implied in his artistic making. Except that Maggiore arrived at this kind of aesthetic language after a long journey that also passed through the avant-garde. Instead, in this his last artistic phase Maggiore returns to figurativism in a reality transfigured in the brilliance of color. The painter's main interest lies not so much in the verisimilitude of the representation, but rather in bringing out the chromatic and luminous values of a color spread compactly in a balanced composition.

Filippo Maggiore was born in Catania in 1929. His training initially took place within the avant-garde. For this reason he moved to Milan in 1959 with the intention of finding an environment more in keeping with his orientations. These were the years in which Maggiore worked in an advertising firm during the day and painted at night, coming to mature a monochromatic and textural informal. A stay in his native Sicily in 1966, however, will awaken in him a feeling for nature and colors. He began the long series of trips to the woods and outdoor picnics in which the painter exalts the brilliance of color values.
